FRESNO, CA, April 16, 2026— A powerful, Tony Award-winning musical that has
moved audiences around the world is coming to Fresno this spring—and it’s being
brought to life by local artists with deep roots in the Central Valley.
Dear Evan Hansen, the acclaimed Broadway production known for its emotional
storytelling and themes of anxiety, belonging, and connection, will premiere in Fresno
on Saturday, May 9, produced by Shine Theatre, a local non-profit dedicated to
elevating the performing arts in the region.
Directed by Tony Sanders, the production highlights the strength of Fresno’s arts
community, featuring a cast of local performers and creative talent. The show’s
universal message—centered on mental health and the human need for
connection—continues to resonate with audiences of all ages, especially in today’s
social climate.
Originally debuting on Broadway to critical acclaim, Dear Evan Hansen earned multiple
honors, including Tony Awards and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.
Its story follows a high school student struggling with anxiety who becomes entangled in
a situation that forces him to confront truth, identity, and belonging.
“This is more than just a musical—it’s a story that reflects what many people are feeling
but don’t always talk about,” said Sanders. “Bringing this production to Fresno, with
local talent makes it even more meaningful for our community.”
